Calliostoma akoya (Kuroda in Ikebe, 1942)

Description
Pearly translucent white or pearly translucent pale brown with fine spiral
ribs. Color of the soft part can be seen from outside. Spire tube rather
round, but someone straight(fig. 3).
Locality
Japan: Off Kii Peninsula Wakayama in 200-300m, Sagami Bay in 250-300m,
Mouth of Tokyo Bay in 250-300m.

Remarks
The pearly translucent pale brown specimens are called the golden type
and are very popular. The pearly luster is quickly lost due to oils
from hands or dirt from the cotton lining the specimen box, so care
must be taken when storing them.
Calliostoma akoya is found at deeper depths than
Calliostoma problematicus and Calliostoma iwamotoi.
